Information: Elena joined FAME's Director's Office as Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer in July 2019.

Born in Bulgaria and raised in the Niger Delta region of West Africa, Elena joined SPC in 2018 with over 12 years’ experience in strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation advisory functions with leading international conservation and development institutions operating in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Before joining FAME, Elena was the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor for SPC's Land Resources Division based in Suva, Fiji. Prior to this, Elena worked as Measures Coordinator for The Nature Conservancy’s Global Strategies Team based in the US for three years, Evaluation Specialist for UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris for five years, and with the UN Population Fund in Nepal and UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva as Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist for three years.

Elena earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics (BA) from Knox College, USA in 2003, a Master’s in Public Administration / International Management (MPA) from Monterey Institute of International Studies in California in 2005 and an MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College in London in 2013. Her thesis focused on methodologies for the assessment of the social impacts of protected areas. In addition to being fluent in English, Elena has a working knowledge of both French and Spanish.
