OnShore is one of the tablet applications of the SPC-developed suite of E-reporting tools.
It is used to collect port sampling data from commercial vessels fishing in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean.
In some countries, when a vessel comes into port to offload its catch, a sampling* of the fishes retained is made by port officers on shore. SPC has designed OnShore as an efficient solution to replace port sampling paper forms.
Once the port sampling has been completed, OnShore can then safely and remotely upload the data to the central cloud based system Tufman 2. Once stored in the database, the information can instantly be analysed by Fisheries managers.
OnShore is currently being used by port samplers in Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Samoa and Tonga. OnShore also features a component to record data about biological samples which are sometimes collected during a port sampling event.
SPC is able to collaborate with other member countries willing to implement this new port sampling tool. For further information, please contact us.
Port sampling: Generally, specimens are identified and their length are measured at the port of unloading. Sometimes, a port sampling can also record the weight of specimens and their export destination.
OnShore is available for Android devices and can be downloaded here.
